ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Citizens for Environmental Safety (CENVIS) is a Community based NGO active in 4 local government areas of Ikom, Boki,Akamkpa and Etung in particular and the state of Cross River State of Nigeria in general. CENVIS is more than 20 years old so also is its project management team. Since 1999 CENVIS has been supported by Rainforest Action Network (RAN) San Francisco, USA , Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) Boulder, CO, USA, Aid to Artisans,USA ,Environment Rights Action(ERA) Nigeria ,NGO Coalition for Environment(NGOCE) Nigeria to carry out several programmes but to limited to the following:- carry out community based workshops on Sustainable Forest Management; grassroots training on use of Non Timber Forest Products (NTFP); Campaign against illegal logging in Ikom Local Government of Cross River State; Promotion of climate and environmental justice in Akamkpa Local Government where mining of granite and limestone has resulted to degraded environment; promotion of sustainable livelihood through development of a 1 hectare of gnetum africanum demonstration farm at Mkpot Community of Etung Local Government of Cross River State Nigeria for the community dwellers.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Ekpok Erokoro

Ekpok Erokoro is an alumnus of Coady International Institute, St Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia Canada, International Centre for Small Hydro Power (CSHP), Hangzhou China and holds a master�s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from graduate school University of Calabar, Nigeria, a Bsc Tech (Hons) from Federal University of Technology, Owerri Imo State Nigeria.

He is the Executive Director and co-founder of Citizens for Environmental Safety (CENVIS), a community-based NGO that is working in the area of environment, forest conservation, Poverty Reduction, Promotion of sustainable energy such as solar home systems, solar Minigrids and small Hydro mini-grids. He also Executive Chairman and co-founder of Citizens Initiative for Ecosystems Restoration (CIFER) an incorporated trustee. The two organizations work on the same issues.

He has more than 25 years experience working in the field of development. His most recent full-time job was with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) as an Adviser on Sustainable Energy and Rural Electrification in charge of Cross River State field office Nigeria.

His current engagements include being a consultant to the Cross River State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy as a consultant. .

SECRETARY

Jane Frances Kamgba

Jane Frances Kamgbaa trustee of Citizens Initiative for Ecosystems Restoration (CIFER) and founding member of Citizens for Environmental Safety (CENVIS). She is a graduate of the University of Calabar,Calabar Cross River State Nigeria, and currently works as Director, Youth Development with the Cross River State Government Nigeria.

Yemi Erokoro

Yemi Sonny-Erokoro a trustee of Citizens Initiative for Ecosystems Restoration (CIFER) and founding member of Citizens for Environmental Safety (CENVIS).She is a graduate of marketing and holds a postgraduate degree in education from the University of Calabar,Calabar Cross River State Nigeria. She is an entrepreneur.
